Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation student work showcase

Wellingtons performing arts hub. Bringing affordable studios and theatres to the Oriental Bay area, encouraging performers and creatives as well as the community to get involved. All spaces can be booked out by community groups, giving places to practice and perform. The rooftop amiptheatre allows free outdoor performance events to happen showcasing Wellington talent. The colours used were inspired by the painted buildings of Oriental bay as well as the colourful, fun and creative atmosphere of Wellington.

The Pavillion 

Whakapapa, the ontological and epistemological influence it has, guides me to honour the whakaaro of my tūpuna in the way I work as a designer, in order to create better futures for my mokopuna. This sets me up to create meaningful connections and forge strong, equitable, and impactful solutions, that design with people, not for them. Whakapapa forces us to think in ways that are in contradiction with western intuition. As designers, it requires us to shift away from being the perpetuators of resource exploitation and promulgators of mass consumerism. Instead, it requires us to be kaitiaki of the future.

Whakapapa in CoDesign

Maramataka Maumaharatanga is a memory card game designed to teach whānau about the Maramataka lunar calendar in a visual, non-daunting, interactive sense. Maramataka Maumaharatanga shares and validates Māori knowledge, enabling self-sovereignty and enhancing the mana of whānau.

Te Maumaharatanga

The concept behind this design is how can we utilise emerging technologies within the board game industry. The board game industry is incredibly unique, its clientele are very particular about what advancements are deemed ‘okay’. If you push the medium too far then you risk subtracting from what separates board games from other more digital mediums.
